ATM10 Getting Started Guide (Public Server Edition)

Updated 2026-08-30 · VYPR staff

Getting started in All The Mods 10 on a public server comes down to four moves in your first 30 minutes: open the quest book, /rtp away from spawn, claim your chunks with FTB Chunks, and set a home. After that, follow Chapter 1 of the quests to iron, ore doubling and your first generator.

All The Mods 10 (pack 8.1 on NeoForge 1.21.1, about 455 mods) is a kitchen-sink pack whose quest book says so in its first line: play it any way you want, with the ATM Star as the endgame goal. On a public server the difference is other people, so this ATM10 getting started guide covers the server-side basics first and the mods second. Everything here is verified against the VYPR server's mod list and configs.

Minutes 0 to 5: spawn, quest book, map

  • Open the quest book. FTB Quests is the pack's tutorial. The main line is "Chapter 1: The Beginning": gather wood, craft a Crafting on a Stick table, go through stone, Iron Furnaces upgrades, iron, redstone, diamonds, the Nether and basic ore doubling. Side chapters exist for nearly every mod, including Basic Power, Basic Tools, Basic Armor, Storage, and Food and Farming.
  • Read the map. JourneyMap is installed and waypoints are shared with your FTB team. Jade tells you what block you are looking at and which mod it belongs to; that alone answers half of the "what is this" questions in chat.
  • Do not build at spawn. Spawn is a shared area and the map was reset fresh on 30 August 2026, so the nearby chunks will be picked clean within days.

Minutes 5 to 15: /rtp and claim

/rtp (FTB Essentials) drops you somewhere between 500 and 25,000 blocks out. It has a 10-minute cooldown and does not work in the End. Look for a spot with a lava lake or a village nearby, because both matter later (lava for power, villagers for Easy Villagers trading).

Then claim. FTB Chunks protects claimed chunks from other players: by default only allies can edit blocks, interact or attack entities inside your claim, explosions are off inside claims, and mob griefing is off. Open the FTB Chunks map, select the chunks under and around your base and claim them. Force-load the chunks that hold machines so they keep running while you are offline.

Limit on VYPR ATM10Value
Claimed chunks per team500
Force-loaded chunks per team25
/rtp range and cooldown500 to 25,000 blocks, 10 minutes
/sethome slots2 by default (more with ranks)
/back after death or teleportEnabled, 30-second cooldown
/tpa to other playersEnabled
PvPAlways on in the wilderness; claims default to PvP on too, so toggle it in your team settings

Playing with friends? Make an FTB Team first (the FTB Teams mod is in the pack) so claims, quest progress and map waypoints are shared, and remember the party's claim limit uses the largest member's allowance rather than adding them up.

Minutes 15 to 30: food, tools, a place to sleep

Food: Farmer's Delight is the pack's cooking mod and its knife plus a cutting board turn early animals and crops into far better meals than raw steak. Cooking for Blockheads adds the kitchen blocks and a cookbook that shows what you can make from what you own, and AppleSkin shows the actual saturation of everything you hover over. Sushi Go Crafting and Farming for Blockheads round it out later.

Tools: vanilla tools are fine for the first ten minutes, but Silent Gear is in the pack and its crafted tools take material parts and upgrades that outpace vanilla quickly. Grab a Sophisticated Backpack as soon as you have leather; it is the pack's standard inventory expansion. FTB Ultimine (hold the key while mining) vein-mines ore and fells whole trees.

Dying: Tombstone puts your inventory in a grave with a key back to it rather than scattering it. Lootr makes dungeon chests per-player, so a looted chest is still full for you.

Home: place a bed, run /sethome, and consider a Waystone at your base. Waystones are in the pack and let you warp between the ones you have activated.

Which mods to open first

With 455 mods it is easy to bounce around. This order works for a first ATM10 playthrough and every mod named here is installed on the server:

  1. Iron Furnaces and ore doubling. The quest book's "Basic Ore Doubling" step uses an Ore Hammer to split raw ore into two dusts; Occultism is the recommended upgrade for more per ore.
  2. Power. Powah (Furnator, Thermo Generator), Mekanism Generators (Heat Generator), Generator Galore. Our early game power guide compares them with the server's numbers.
  3. Storage. Functional Storage drawers and Sophisticated Storage chests for the first base, then Refined Storage or Applied Energistics 2 once you can afford the network.
  4. Automation and logistics. Pipez for simple item, fluid and energy pipes; Create for anything mechanical; Modular Routers and XNet when you want fewer blocks.
  5. Resources on tap. Mystical Agriculture (inferium seeds, then essence crops for every metal), Productive Bees, and Industrial Foregoing for mob and crop farms.
  6. Magic if you like it. Ars Nouveau, Occultism and Iron's Spells and Spellbooks each have full quest chapters.

Where to go mid-game

Once you have stable power and drawers, ATM10 opens up in three directions:

  • Allthemodium. The pack's signature ores (allthemodium, vibranium, unobtainium) drive the endgame armor and the ATM Star. The Mining Dimension is where the pack's worldgen script concentrates uraninite, inferium, prosperity, draconium and many other modded ores, so it is your main quarry location.
  • Dimensions and bosses. The Aether, Twilight Forest, Eternal Starlight and Deeper and Darker are all installed, and Apotheosis adds affixed gear and reworked bosses across all of them. Dungeon Crawl, YUNG's Better Dungeons and Dungeons Arise supply the structures.
  • Big tech. Mekanism's fission and fusion reactors, Extreme Reactors, Modern Industrialization, Draconic Evolution and Compact Machines are all here for when a Powah reactor stops being enough.

The finish line is the ATM Star quest chapter. Our ATM Star guide was written for ATM11, but the philosophy (automate every core material before you start) carries over.

VYPR tip: the server runs vote rewards and a coin economy on top of the pack. /vote lists the sites, and /store in-game or the web store shows ranks, which raise your home and claim limits. Chat questions about mods get faster answers if you say the mod name Jade shows you.

Questions

What should I do first in ATM10 on a server?

Open the FTB Quests book, use /rtp to get away from spawn, claim your base chunks with FTB Chunks, and run /sethome. Then follow Chapter 1 of the quests to iron and ore doubling.

How many chunks can I claim on the VYPR ATM10 server?

500 claimed chunks and 25 force-loaded chunks per team by default. Ranks from the store add more.

Is ATM10 different from ATM11 to start?

The rhythm is the same, but ATM10 is on Minecraft 1.21.1 with its own mod list (Silent Gear, Iron Furnaces, Generator Galore, Eternal Starlight and others) and its own quest book. Use our ATM11 guide for that pack; this one is specific to ATM10 pack 8.1.

Which mods are best for beginners in ATM10?

Iron Furnaces, Powah, Functional Storage, Pipez and Mystical Agriculture. Each is cheap, well covered by the quest book, and stays useful all game.
