ATM10 To The Sky: First Hour Guide (Skyblock Start)

Updated 2026-08-30 · VYPR staff

Your first hour in ATM10 To The Sky is the Ex Deorum loop: punch the tree, craft a Sieve and String Mesh, hammer cobble into gravel and sand, compost leaves in an Oak Barrel for dirt, and make a Porcelain Crucible for lava. On VYPR you start in a lobby and create your island with /skyblock gui; islands live in their own dimension and can be claimed with FTB Chunks.

All The Mods 10 To The Sky (pack 2.0.1, about 313 mods) is ATM10 with the ground removed. Everything below is checked against the server's Skyblock Builder, Ex Deorum and Cobblegen Galore configs and the pack's quest book, so the first hour guide here matches what you will actually see on VYPR rather than a generic skyblock walkthrough.

Minute 0: get an island on VYPR

You log in to a lobby, not an island. The lobby is the overworld; player islands are generated in a separate dimension (vypr:skyblock) 4,096 blocks apart. To start:

  1. Run /skyblock gui (the quest book's own instruction, powered by the Sky GUIs mod). Choose a team name and an island template, then create the team. You are teleported to your island.
  2. Prefer commands? /skyblock create does the same, and /skyblock invite, /skyblock join, /skyblock accept, /skyblock leave and /skyblock visit handle teams. /skyblock home returns you to the island and /skyblock spawn returns you to the lobby; each has a three-minute cooldown on this server.
  3. Claim your island with FTB Chunks (open the map, claim the chunks under your build). Claims are blocked in the lobby world and allowed in the island dimension; the default is 500 claimed chunks and 25 force-loaded chunks per team.

If you fall off the lobby you are teleported back to spawn automatically. /rtp is switched off on this server because there is nothing to teleport to.

Which island template?

Seven templates are configured. The first (and default) is Simple Life, and the containers on every template are empty, so pick on layout, not loot.

TemplateWhat you get
simple_life (default)33x48 island with a cottage, a pond of water, farmland already planted with wheat, carrots, potatoes and beetroot, a few oak logs, bookshelves, a cauldron and lanterns.
witch_cottageLarge mossy build with water, sugar cane, gravel and oak and spruce logs.
defaultThe classic: an 8x8 dirt block with one oak tree. No water.
skyfactoryOne oak tree on a single dirt block. Hard mode.
piggyA pink pig statue with a chest, crafting table and furnace and a small grass patch on top.
sanguine sanctuary, steve's staycationBig decorated starter bases with water, beds, campfires and torches.

Simple Life is the right call for a first run: water and crops on day one skip the two slowest parts of the loop.

What you actually start with

Skyblock Builder's starting inventory is empty on this pack. What you do get:

  • Ex Deorum hands every new player a torch and a Wooden Watering Can (both enabled in the server config). The watering can grows crops and saplings faster; use it constantly.
  • The quest book's Starting Out quest pays 16 cooked beef and 5 torches. Punching Trees pays oak logs and a Crafting on a Stick portable crafting table.
  • Emergency Saplings is a repeatable quest that gives an oak sapling. Claim it if you ever lose your tree.
  • A head Start is optional and gives a lava bucket, ice, sugar cane, wheat seeds and a cactus. Take it unless you want the purist start.
  • The Stone Generator quest rewards a Cobblegen Galore Stone Generator plus compressed gravel and sand.

Minutes 1 to 10: wood, pebbles, sieve

Punch the tree, replant the sapling, and water it with the can. Break leaves by hand for more saplings and keep a stack of leaves for later. Then:

  • Pebbles: shift-right-click the top of a grass block to pull out pebbles. Four pebbles craft into the matching stone (stone, deepslate, andesite, granite, diorite, blackstone, basalt).
  • Sieve and String Mesh: craft an Ex Deorum Sieve and a String Mesh, right-click the mesh into the sieve, then right-click blocks into it and keep clicking. Sieves placed next to each other work together, up to a 5x5.
  • Hammer: a Stone Hammer breaks cobblestone into gravel, gravel into sand and sand into dust. Sieving those gives ore chunks, seeds and flint.
  • Dirt: sieve dirt for grass seeds and crop seeds. More dirt comes from an Oak Barrel: drop in leaves, moss or crops and it composts into a dirt block. That is the only early dirt source, so keep the barrel fed.

Minutes 10 to 25: water and lava

Water: Oak Barrels and crucibles fill with rain on this server, but the fast route is a wooden Crucible fed with leaves, which slowly turns them into water. Two water sources placed diagonally give you an infinite pool.

Lava: sieve or dig up clay, craft it into porcelain and fire a Porcelain Crucible. Set it above a heat source (a torch works, fire is faster, lava faster still) and feed it cobblestone; it melts into lava. A porcelain bucket carries it if you have no iron yet.

Stone Generator: the Cobblegen Galore Stone Generator needs a lava source and a water source on two of its sides and an inventory (a chest is fine) above it. Put a different block underneath to make andesite, obsidian and others (check JEI). The Copper, Iron, Gold, Emerald, Diamond and Netherite generators are crafted from the previous tier plus water and lava buckets, and each is faster.

Minutes 25 to 45: first ores and meshes

Ore chunks come out of the sieve and smelt into ingots, but two things in this pack change the usual routine:

  • Meshes are upgraded, not crafted from scratch. The pack removes the standalone recipes for Flint, Iron, Golden and Diamond meshes. You craft a String Mesh, then upgrade it to Flint, then Iron, then Golden, then Diamond (Netherite is separate). Better meshes unlock better drops: diamonds and emeralds from gravel only appear from the Iron Mesh up, and Create's stones (veridium, crimsite, asurine, ochrum) and Xycraft kivi appear from gravel with Iron Mesh or better.
  • Ore duplication is cheap. The Integrated Dynamics Squeezer turns raw ore blocks into raw ore when you jump on it, and an Ore Hammer splits raw ore into two dusts. Both are quest-book recommended and neither needs power.

Minutes 45 to 60: first machines

Once you have iron and copper, follow the Chapter 1 quest line into Compressed Blocks and Crushing Compressed Blocks for bulk sieving, then pick a power source. Powah, Mekanism Generators and Generator Galore are all in this pack, and everything in our ATM10 early game power guide applies except the lava lakes, which you now make yourself. Botany Pots, Productive Farming and Productive Trees are here for hands-off crops and wood, and Mystical Agriculture is the long-term answer to every resource.

VYPR tip: the Nether and End are void on this server too (Ex Deorum's void generation is on for both), so plan on making netherrack and end stone rather than travelling for them. /sethome gives two homes by default, /spawn returns you to the lobby, and /skyblock visit lets you tour other players' islands once they allow visitors.

Questions

How do I get an island on the VYPR ATM10 To The Sky server?

Run /skyblock gui in the lobby, choose a team name and template, and create the team. You are teleported to a fresh island in the island dimension. /skyblock home brings you back later.

Which ATM10 To The Sky island template is best?

Simple Life (the default). It starts with water, planted farmland and a cottage, which saves you the slowest early steps. Skyfactory and default are the classic single-tree starts for players who want the hard version.

How do you get lava in ATM10 To The Sky?

Craft a Porcelain Crucible from fired clay, put it over a heat source, and feed it cobblestone. It melts into lava. The optional A head Start quest also gives one lava bucket.

Can I claim chunks on my island?

Yes. FTB Chunks claims are allowed in the island dimension (not in the lobby), with 500 claimed and 25 force-loaded chunks per team by default.
